Nearby Merimbula is at the heart of the Sapphire Coast. With a variety of restaurants and cafes, excellent shopping centre, four licensed clubs and movie theatre, there is plenty of entertainment for all. Surrounded by by lakes and ocean with a backdrop of natural bushland, the coastline inspires activity. Swim, surf, sail or dive these amazing waters as the sea life takes you into another world. Take a charter boat on tour, to fish, dive or whale-watch in season. Fish to your heart’s content as you savour the peace and solitude of a sunset or early morning sunrise. Surrounded by a multitude of National Parks and State Forests, our area is home to an abundance of native animal and plant species.
bournda national park
Woodbine Park adjoins Bournda National Park, a coastal park of 2305 hectares. The diverse beach, estuary, lake and bushland environments inside the park, together with an extensive network of walking tracks, provide a wide range of recreational activities. Fishing, picnicking, canoeing, bushwalking, surfing, swimming, prawning and bird watching are all popular activities. Sailing, power boating and water skiing are catered for on Wallagoot Lake.
From September – November each year is whale watching season. Basking Humpbacks are commonplace, while South Right, Minke and Killer Whales also visit. Shoreline viewing is commonplace as the whales gather close to the shoreline prior to crossing Bass Strait. Breaching, tail waving and fin flapping are a common sight. Boat cruises to view these amazing animals closer up are available from Merimbula and Eden.
The Sapphire Coast offers the very best of clean unpolluted waters. Good surf, beach, rock, estuary as well as deep sea and game fishing are all available. Bournda Island – only 1.5 kms from Woodbine Park – is a renowned surf and rock fishing spot with tailor, salmon and gummies among the regular catches. Charter boats operating out of Merimbula, Eden and Bermagui cater for all types of fishing.
